La Geria, recently recognized by FAO as Important World Agricultural Heritage System (SIPAM), returned to dress up the weekend of 14-15 June. Under the motto “Discover. Enjoy. Respect.”, runners and hikers meandered through the picón holes that protect the vineyards, animated by thousands of fans and the unmistakable volcanic curtain of Timanfaya.
As tradition dictates, the winners raised a very special trophy: its own weight in Lanzarote wine.
The route challenges with picón ramps and semicircular walls that protect each vine, but at the same time offers a landscape that can be savored with all five senses. Running between volcanoes and vineyards is, in Lanzarote, a unique experience.
One of the most photographed moments was the presence of Blanche, a 10-year-old camel that toured part of the race as a tribute to the peasants who forged La Geria with the help of these animals.
As runners reached the finish line, the Uga fairgrounds vibrated with live music and the stands of 22 wineries of the Lanzarote Denomination of Origin, which offered more than 90 labels to taste. A perfect combination of sport and wine tourism.
The Wine Run once again boasted the label Diver of universal accessibility and of the modality Joëlette, which allows people with reduced mobility to feel the race. Part of the proceeds will go to conservation projects in La Geria and to social entities such as ADISLAN and the Association Growing.
With thirteen editions behind it, the Wine Run continues to grow without losing its essence: running, providing and protecting an unrepeatable landscape. The 2025 edition has demonstrated that sport, culture and sustainability can walk-and run-hand. Do you dare to savor the next one?
