The tourist resort of Puerto del Carmen, in the municipality of Tías, became the epicenter of triathlon in the early hours of Saturday morning with the celebration of the fifteenth edition of Ocean Lava Lanzarote. With more than favorable weather conditions, more than 400 participants took the start in the different modalities.

Olympic mode (1,500 m swimming/40 km cycling/10 km race)

From the starting beep at Los Pocillos beach to the finish line, the athletes demonstrated endurance, strategy and dedication. On the bike section, coastal wind prevailed as a key variable, forcing participants to manage energy wisely. Finally, the absolute triumph in this category fell to the triathlete of CT Diablillos de Rivas, Jorge Wilkes, who managed to cross the finish line in 1 hour 59 minutes 51 seconds. They accompanied him on the podium: second place for Rasmus Pilegaard (2:03:15) and third for Arturo Javier Barro (CD Tridan Danysport, 2:08:08).

In the women's Olympic distance category, the victory went to Maike Döhling (All for a Dream team) with a time of 2 hours 35 minutes 15 seconds. It was followed by Marine Blache (2:36:04) and Sheila Jordan (All for a Dream, 2:39:25) in second and third position respectively.

Supersprint mode (400 m swimming/11 km bike/2.5 km race)

The day also included the Supersprint modality, designed for participants looking for a shorter but more intense experience. There, Fabio Vargas emerged as the men's winner with a time of 41 minutes 16 seconds, followed closely by Joel Izán Concepción (just 12 seconds behind the winner) and Aitor Rodríguez (42:05). In the women's category, Paula Vargas won 48:08, ahead of Sara Ballesteros (48:27) and Carmen Marcos (48:55).

Kids Race mode

To complete the day, the youngest also played a leading role in the Kids Race, an adapted race that allowed boys and girls to participate in a sporty, motivating environment that was in full combat with the triathlon environment. The joy on their faces as they crossed the finish line reflected the spirit of future generations who join the challenge of overcoming themselves.

La prueba desde dentro

El ambiente fue muy animado desde el arranque, con público, voluntarios y participantes enérgicos. El viento —habitual en Lanzarote— obligó a los ciclistas a adoptar una postura inteligente, conservando fuerzas para los metros finales de la carrera a pie. La organización introdujo nuevas zonas de hidratación y recuperación, lo que los atletas agradecieron. Los aplausos al cruzar la meta, el paisaje volcánico de fondo y la sensación de logro hicieron que la experiencia fuese algo más que una competición: fue un reto personal y colectivo.

Detrás del evento

La organización local —con el apoyo institucional del Gobierno de Canarias, el Ayuntamiento de Tías y diversas entidades del sector turismo y deporte de la isla— garantizó un buen desarrollo. La labor de voluntarios y técnicos hizo posible que todo transcurriera con fluidez, lo que los atletas valoraron positivamente. Las transiciones, la señalización y la climatización del ambiente fueron aspectos que destacaron los participantes.

Conclusión: Lanzarote vuelve a brillar

Ocean Lava Lanzarote 2025 deja una edición de alto nivel deportivo en un marco insular espectacular. Con más de 400 triatletas de distintas nacionalidades, una organización cuidada al detalle y un entorno que combina mar, viento y paisaje volcánico, la prueba vuelve a apuntalar su posición dentro del calendario nacional. Será difícil igualar la emoción de esta edición, pero muchos ya miran la próxima convocatoria con ganas.
