Full chronicle — Sailfish Lanzarote Open Water 2025

Last May 10, 2025, the waters of Puerto del Carmen hosted a new edition of the Sailfish Lanzarote Open Water, one of the most popular events in the Canary Islands swimming community. From the early hours of the morning, the beach was filled with emotion, colored caps, family and friends encouraging the nearly 400 swimmers who took the start at different distances.

With a slightly cloudy day, but without wind and with a perfect tide, the conditions were good to make the most of this day of outdoor sports.

An ideal environment for competing

La Playa Grande de Tías was, as always, the perfect setting for this test. The route, perfectly marked, allowed both experienced and novice swimmers to face their challenge in a safe environment, thanks to the great organizational deployment and the volunteers who accompanied them throughout the day.

The categories were divided by distances and ages, from the smallest to the master groups, allowing for diverse participation with a lot of talent present.

Beyond the Times

As is often the case in well-organized tests, the environment was one of the main protagonists. Throughout the day, there was great coexistence between swimmers, families, volunteers and technical staff. The goal tent was a meeting point where emotions were shared, trophies were awarded and personal achievements were celebrated.

Special mention to the handmade trophies created by the local collective Yaizart, which brought a unique touch to the podium and reinforced the connection between sport and local culture.

The positive impact of events like this

The Sailfish Lanzarote Open Water is not only a sporting event: it is also a tool for the promotion of grassroots sports, a platform for the visibility of open water swimming and an engine of sports tourism for the island.
