Volcano Triathlon 2025: A legendary edition that reaffirms Lanzarote as the capital of triathlon

On May 3, 2025, Lanzarote returned to being the epicenter of international triathlon with the celebration of the 41st edition of the Volcano Triathlon, the oldest Olympic distance event in Spain. Organized by the prestigious Club La Santa, the event brought together more than 500 triathletes of various nationalities, establishing itself as an unmissable event in the sports calendar.

💥 Absolute dominance by Anne Haug and revalidation by Laurens Verluyten

In the female category, Anne Haug left no room for surprise. The IRONMAN world champion, a regular in Lanzarote, led the race from start to finish with overwhelming superiority. From the swimming segment, he set the pace, maintained his advantage during the 40 km of cycling and finished with an unattainable pace in the running race. Stopped the stopwatch at 2:05:51, with an advantage of almost 16 minutes over the runner-up.

In the male category, Laurens Verluyten returned to the top of the podium for the second year in a row. Although the British Oscar Hobson led swimming, it was in the cycling segment where the Belgian demonstrated his strength, overtaking his rivals and defending his advantage firmly until he crossed the finish line with a final time of 1:57:20.

🙌 Organization and institutional support

The event was made possible thanks to the collaboration of Cabildo of Lanzarote, Lanzarote Tourism, European Sports Destination, and the municipalities of Teguise and Tinajo, who, with their support, reinforce the island's position as a high-level sports destination.

⏭️ What's coming: IRONMAN and postponements

With the recent success of the Volcano Triathlon, Lanzarote is already preparing for its next big event: the Club La Santa IRONMAN Lanzarote, which will be held on May 17, 2025, being the oldest IRONMAN event in Europe and one of the toughest in the world.

On the other hand, it should be noted that the expected Ultrabike Lanzarote 2025, originally scheduled for this weekend, has been Deferred by the organization. From TriLanzarote we will continue to inform you when a new date is announced.
