About the event
The San Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife is the capital’s end-of-year race and, by turnout, one of the biggest mass-participation events on Lanzarote: more than 1,300 people ran the last edition, according to La Voz de Lanzarote.
It is not a race for times. It is run at midday on 31 December through central Arrecife, and half the field is in fancy dress. It is where the island’s racing year ends, and where the people who compete all year mix with the people who run once.
The 2026 date here is provisional. We give 31 December because that is what tradition dictates, but the council has not yet published rules or entries. Checked on 6 September 2026.
Route and distances
The main race is 5 km through the city’s central streets, open to over-14s, starting at 12:00 in the last edition.
Earlier in the morning the children’s categories run, each with its own distance by age: from around 50 metres for the youngest to 800 for the oldest. That is why it is a race for whole families and not only for runners.
The exact route is published with the rules and can change from year to year depending on the municipal arrangements, so we do not fix it here.
Registration and status
In the last edition entry cost 12 EUR for adults and 5 EUR for under-18s, closing on 25 December or earlier if the cap was reached. It was handled through Tripasión Eventos.
For 2026 entries are not open. When they appear, the things worth checking are the entry cap (it fills), the start time of your age group’s children’s race, and where and when race numbers are collected, which on New Year’s Eve is not a minor detail.
Planning notes
This race is shaped by the day it falls on. At midday on 31 December central Arrecife has last-minute shopping traffic and road closures, so arrive early and do not rely on the car: parking near the start is not going to happen.
And expect no afternoon. The race finishes early in the afternoon and everyone has dinner that night, so whatever comes after tends to be short.
