A look at the events that help explain why Lanzarote is a reference island for outdoor sport and endurance racing.

The most important sports events in Lanzarote are not all the same. Some have international reach, others are deeply local, and some blend sport with landscape, culture or active tourism. What they share is that they help explain an island where endurance sport is part of the identity.
This selection is not a fixed ranking. It is a first editorial reading of the events worth keeping on your radar.
IRONMAN Lanzarote
This is the island’s most recognised race internationally. Its difficulty and history have turned it into a long-distance reference. For many triathletes, finishing IRONMAN Lanzarote means completing a race where management matters as much as fitness.
Volcano Triathlon
Volcano Triathlon represents tradition. Organised by Club La Santa since 1984, it keeps an Olympic-distance format that brings together local athletes, visitors and high-level triathletes.
Sailfish Lanzarote Open Water
Open-water swimming has its own space with Sailfish Lanzarote Open Water. Playa Grande makes it possible to bring short and long distances together in a venue that works well for participants and supporters.
Lanzarote Wine Run
Wine Run offers a different dimension: running or walking through volcanic vineyards. Its value is not only in the clock, but in its relationship with La Geria, wine and the island’s agricultural landscape.
Tinajo You Trail and Vertical Montaña Blanca
These races show the strength of trail and mountain running on the island. Tinajo brings volcanic scenery and several distances. Montaña Blanca offers a local format closely connected to its municipality.
Haría Extreme and Ultrabike Lanzarote
Haría Extreme and Ultrabike are part of Lanzarote’s sports imagination, although their current details need confirmation before planning a season. That is why TriLanzarote marks them as pending when there is no clear 2026 date.
What makes Lanzarote special
The island does not offer easy racing. It offers character. Wind, lava, coast, elevation, sun and experienced organisers mean that every event has more than just a distance.
To follow the calendar, save events to My Season, review each event page and always confirm final information through official channels before entering or travelling.
