More than one race
The value of the World Cup was not only the podium. Costa Teguise appeared as a high-level triathlon venue, with short, visual and demanding courses for elite racing. At the same time, the popular programme connected the international event with local athletes and visiting age-groupers.
FECANTRI reported that the I Triatlón de Lanzarote, held as a sprint-distance race within the same event framework, was won by César Vera and Ghislane Assou. That mix of elite and popular racing helps the event become more than a spectacle: it also becomes part of the local club and development calendar.
For TriLanzarote, the World Cup confirms that the island’s calendar is no longer explained only by historic long-distance events. Lanzarote can also hold a place in fast, broadcast-friendly international triathlon.
