The 36th Lanzarote Youth Triathlon and Aquathlon Championship was one of the most important pieces in the island’s development pathway. The Canary Islands Triathlon Federation published the event as a competition organised by the Cabildo de Lanzarote in collaboration with FECANTRI, using a three-round format at Lago de La Santa.
The official calendar listed three Saturdays: 7 March, 21 March and 16 May 2026. Federation information stated that each round would include triathlon and aquathlon races according to age category, starting at 10:00. Lanzarote Deportes later reported on the opening round and the role of young Real Club Náutico de Arrecife athletes.
Categories and approach
The championship separated the focus by age. Prebenjamín, benjamín and alevín athletes took part in aquathlon with a participatory character and a commemorative medal. Infantil, cadete, juvenil and junior athletes raced triathlon with a points system, trophies for the top three and relevance for the island ranking.
According to FECANTRI, the aquathlon distances progressed by age: 125 m run, 50 m swim and 125 m run for prebenjamín; 250 m, 100 m and 250 m for benjamín; and 500 m, 200 m and 500 m for alevín. The older triathlon categories combined swimming, cycling and running over age-adapted ranges.
Why it matters
This championship should not be seen as a small event. It is an entry point for many children and teenagers who may later move into popular events, clubs, Canary Islands championships or adult racing. It also gives families a local, structured calendar linked to a recognisable venue such as Lago de La Santa.
The federation notice also stated that the competition would help form Lanzarote’s team for the Canary Islands school-age championships in infantil and cadete categories, according to the relevant rules. That makes the event a talent-identification step as well as a participation programme.
Pending verification
At the time of preparing this article, TriLanzarote has found the official call and partial reports, but not a single consolidated final island ranking for all rounds. This piece therefore works as editorial context and a follow-up archive. Once complete results are published by FECANTRI, the Cabildo or official timing, the article should be updated with final category results.
